dHow are your classes set-up?
Since JKD Center is constantly researching and fine tuning its metodes of teaching, based on our experience, the best approche to teach our students. Since JKD Concepts has so many expressions and directions, it is our agenda to give the student various experiences, so he/she may grow from it and aquire a more indepth understanding of combat. The different “Phase” classes are designed to train, perfect, maintain, functionalize and focus on various key elements of selfdefence.

Our classes at JKD Center is divided into 5 different classes.

aPhase 1 -
The function of ”Phase 1″ is to master the basic skills essential in Jeet Kune Do such as, bodymechanics, platform (Bai Jong), footwork & sensitivity. The focus of this class to to gain experience and functional skill in following combat ranges, such as: Kicking. Punching & Trapping. Besides these 3 ranges (of 4) weaponry is also a key element which is a dedicated factor in Phase 1, students have to be competent in the “emty hands” aspect and with weapons before they can progress onto “Phase 2″ The class is set-up is done in an alive-progressive resistance manner. The goal here is to gain a working undertstanding of the basic material taught, while also giving the students an arena where they can test themselves and their skills against  a ressistant training partner, and thereby again a real sense of their current skill.

pitbullThe Pitbull Selfdefence Program - For Women Only
The main difference here is that the curiculum starts with weaponry first and ends with emty hands. From our experiences, unless a woman has been training martial arts or has a good control of killer instinct and is naturally atletic, then she has a good chance of escaping an altercation. But gennerally, we dont ever recomend our females students to fight fair with an assailant.  The dymamics on how men and women get into altercations are very different from each other. From a womens vantage point, an assailent is only after 3 things: your property, your body… or your life.

From our own experience in teaching women, we have come across that womoen have  shorter time in learning to fight with weapon, thus giving our female students a workable tool and competence in actually being able to defend themsleves faster, then using many months (or years) in making them somewhat profecient in the emty hands aspect of  combat. But even with that, the attacker is likely to be a male. which generally bigger and stronger, and even with
those odds a female will still need to cheat to win.

The first half of the class is technical and isolated sparring, there after sparring with each other. As their security in their skill rises, then we start to make them spar with their male co-students from either the “Phase 1″ or “Phase 2″ class. In that way they will gain realistic experience in their actually progression.

Here are a list of the following topics included in the “Pittbull Selfdefence Program” :

Filipino Martial Arts
Rapid Assault Tactics
Brazilian JiuJitsu
Kino Mutai

ffPhase 2 -
The main goal here is to train the student to be efficient in all 4 ranges of combat (kicking punching, trapping & ground fighting). Due to the expanded skillset the student must atchieve is why the focus on the “Phase 2″ cucirulum can change from time to time accoruding to the instructors preference. The reason behind this is to give the student an indepth understanding and functionality in a given topic. This “change” is based on the current class` understading, functionality and “maturity” which the decition is based on.

The various elements in “Phase 2″ are:

gPhase 3 .
This is where the instructors train along sides with the school´s “best” students. Those who are lucky to be selected to train on the “P3″ class are those whom we, the instructors, would like to see become instructors in the future. This assesment is based on the individual´s skill, understanding, teaching capabilities and potensial. The main difference in this class, is that the material here is theme based. The entire curiculum is divided into elements and each is there after pregesses from basics to advanced sparring. The reason for this is to give each student (and instructor) a deeper understanding of the different arts and workable, functional attributes that is pressure tested in sparring.

“In Jeet Kune Do, all technique is to be forgotten and the unconscience is left to be alone to handle the situation. The tecnique will assert its wonders automaticly or spontaneosly. To float in totality, to have no technique, is to have all technique”
